How to choose the right travel insurance policy

Here are 6 tips on what to look for when buying a travel insurance policy.

TIP 1: READ THE CONTRACT

Someone will say that this is banal advice that does not contain any specifics.
The fact is that travel insurance for those travelling abroad is a voluntary type of insurance, which means that
the text and terms of the contract are prescribed by the insurance company solely for themselves with the aim of refusing to pay you or reducing it, and only God knows what the insurer can prescribe there . We would have to write dozens of pages to tell about all the nuances of this type of insurance.

TIP 2: YOUR ACTIONS IN THE INSURED EVENT

Learn your procedure in the event of an insured event. As a rule, a small booklet is attached to the policy itself, which fully describes your actions. Do not lose it and strictly adhere to the recommendations and order.

TIP 3: ASSISTANCE

Please note that it is not the insurance company that pays for you abroad, but the assisting one. Assistance organises medical care for the victim. Therefore, carefully study the reviews and ratings of the assisting company. Check the availability of an insert with dial-up numbers for assistance. Serious companies, as a rule, have local dial-up telephones in most European countries, which allows you not to spend money on a roaming call.

TIP 4: DOCUMENTS AND CHECKS

Often the denial of payment occurs due to incorrectly collected documents about the insured event. Do not forget that upon returning home, in order to pay the amount of insurance, you must present the relevant documents obtained abroad. Make sure all documents are signed and stamped.

TIP 5: AREA OF COVERAGE

Be sure to indicate in the insurance policy all the countries that you are going to visit during the period for which your insurance is issued. Otherwise, you simply will not receive insurance compensation if the country in which you need medical care is simply not indicated on your policy.

TIP 6: ACTIVE TOURISM/RECREATION

If you plan on skiing, diving, climbing, etc. during your trip, be sure to insure with an option that covers this. Yes, this will increase the cost of insurance by 1.5-3 times, but otherwise the insurance company will simply refuse to pay you due to the lack of this coverage. If you hesitate as to whether the active activity you are planning abroad is suitable for the one that the insurer refers to as a "high risk zone", then check with the agent about this, or even better, find confirmation of this in the contract.
